Sauna Repair Done Right
Moldy wood? Broken heater? Control not working? Need your sauna oiled? We have seen it all and can fix anything. San Jose Sauna services every brand across San Jose and the South Bay, on rooms we built and plenty we did not, from imported Finnish cabins to flat-pack units out of a warehouse store. Most calls are finished the same day, and we tell you plainly what needs doing now and what can wait.
Why Go With Us for Repairs
We diagnose before we quote. Weak heat gets blamed on the heater far more often than the heater deserves, and replacing it when the real problem is packed-down stones or a failed door seal is an expensive way to not fix anything. Our trucks carry the common parts, so most tune-ups and repairs finish before we leave. And because we build these rooms, we can tell the difference between a repair worth doing and a room that has reached the end of its life. A good share of what we fix was never built right, and where a room is past saving a replacement custom build costs less than repeated call-outs. If you inherited a kit with the house, a proper re-install is often the cheaper fix, and the work we take on covers both.
- Every brand welcome, ours or not
- Most jobs finished in one visit
- Diagnosis before quotation, always
- Common heater parts and stones carried on the truck
- Timber sanding, oiling and board replacement
- Descaling for hard valley water
- Annual care plans available
When You Need Sauna Repair
Call us when you see any of this:
- Slow or weak heat. If the room crawls to temperature or will not pass 170 degrees, it is usually the heater, the stones or the seal.
- White crust on the heater or stones. Our water is hard, and that scale blocks heat and flattens the steam.
- Gaps opening between boards, or a door that will not seal. Dry summer air shrinks timber and a leaking door bleeds heat.
- Dark staining or a musty smell, which means moisture is sitting somewhere it should not.
- Gray, rough or splintery benches, where sun and dry air have pulled the oil out of the cedar.
- Dusty or blocked vents, which a dry season fills fast and which make the room feel stuffy.
- Controls that ignore you, trip the breaker or hold the wrong temperature.
- A sauna you inherited with the house and know nothing about.

How We Work
From the first drawing to your first steam, the plan stays clear and the price stays set.
1. Full inspection
Before we price anything we go through the whole room: heater and stones, benches, timber, seals, airflow and controls. You get an itemized list separating what needs doing now from what can wait.
2. Same-visit repair where possible
The truck carries stones, heater elements, controls, sealant and sanding and oiling gear, so most tune-ups finish that day. Anything needing a special-order part gets scheduled with the price agreed first.
3. Matched finishes
Replacement boards, oils and stones are matched to what you already have so the repair blends in rather than announcing itself.
Repairs We Handle
Heater and element replacement
Failed elements, tired contactors, thermostats that drift and units that trip the breaker. We carry common parts and can source imported ones.
Control and sensor faults
Controllers that will not hold a setpoint, sensors reading wrong, and upgrades from an old dial to a modern scheduling control.
Timber restoration
Sanding and re-oiling grey or splintered benches, replacing water-damaged or moldy boards, and treating timber so it survives the next dry summer.
Scale, stones and airflow
Descaling elements, replacing cracked and packed-down stones, clearing and rebalancing intake and exhaust so the room breathes again.
What Affects the Cost of Sauna Repair
We price each repair off what we find, so there is no flat rate. What moves it:
- Job size. A tune-up with fresh stones costs far less than a full bench rebuild.
- The heater. Parts differ by brand, and older or imported units can take longer to source.
- Timber condition. A sand and oil is quick; pulling and replacing split or moldy boards is a bigger job.
- Scale severity. Heavy buildup can mean new elements and stones rather than a clean.
- Vents and sealing, which occasionally means opening a wall, costing more now and saving the timber later.
- The annual plan, which rolls routine care into one fixed price.
You see an itemized price before we start, and we always split what needs doing now from what can wait.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will you service a sauna you did not build?
Yes, and most of our repair work is on other people’s builds, from imported cabins to flat-pack units. Any brand, any age. We inspect it, find the actual cause and get it running safely again.
My heater barely gets warm. Is it worth fixing?
Usually. Weak heat is almost always a worn element, scaled or packed-down stones, or a failed seal, and all three are fixable for far less than a replacement. We test it and tell you honestly when a new heater is the better buy.
How often does a sauna need servicing?
Once a year for an indoor room, twice for an outdoor one in full sun. Dry heat and hard water do their damage slowly and invisibly, and an annual check heads off nearly all of the expensive repairs.
Can you fix mold in the timber?
In most cases yes. Surface mold sands out and treats. Boards that have gone soft need replacing, and more importantly we find why moisture was sitting there, which is nearly always a vent or seal problem. Fixing the cause is what stops it coming back.
What is in the annual care plan?
One visit a year covering the heater and stones, scale removal, timber sanding and oiling, seal and vent checks and a door adjustment, all for one fixed price. It catches small problems while they are still small.
