Why Go With Us
We are a licensed California Class B general building contractor, which matters more than it sounds. It means the framing, the waterproofing, the electrical and the finish carpentry all sit with one crew under one contract, instead of being split between trades who each blame the others when something goes wrong. Our crew trains on both Finnish and North American practice, so a traditional sauna we build makes real steam rather than just getting hot, and a steam room we seal stays watertight behind the tile. We have worked on Eichlers, 1960s ranch homes, condos, backyard cabins and gym locker rooms across this valley, and we have seen what our dry summers and hard water do to a sauna over ten years. We build for that from the first drawing.
What We Are Trying to Build
Our goal is simple enough to say in one sentence: build saunas good enough that you use them every week, in July heat and January chill alike. Most home saunas fail that test. They get used hard for a month, then the novelty wears off, or the wood dries out, or the heater takes forty minutes to come up and it stops being worth the wait. We would rather build fewer rooms and have them right. That is why every project starts with a measured design before anyone orders material, and why we push people toward an indoor sauna when we can see they will never walk to the end of the garden in January. It also means taking the time to size the heater properly, load enough stone, put the vents where the air needs to move, and finish the timber so it survives a valley summer. If a bench is close but not right, it gets pulled and redone.
Why It Pays to Choose Carefully
Sauna work sits in an awkward gap. It is part carpentry, part electrical and part heat engineering, and plenty of general contractors will happily take the job without ever having built one. The results are predictable. Rooms that reach temperature but never make steam, because nobody calculated stone mass. Heaters wired to a shared circuit that trip every time the dryer runs. Vapor barriers left out, so two years later there is a soft patch of drywall on the far side of the wall. Unpermitted work that becomes a problem when you sell. A good share of our repair work is undoing exactly that, and a barrel sauna dropped on unprepared ground is the most common version of it. Ask anyone quoting your job how they size a heater, where the intake vent goes and whether they are pulling a permit. The answers will tell you quickly who has done this before.
What Affects the Cost of Sauna Installation
Installation pricing follows the work in front of us. What moves it most:
- Site prep. Setting on an existing slab is quick. Pouring a pad or cutting into a slope adds days.
- Electrical. Running a dedicated circuit is often the biggest single line item, and an old panel with no spare slots pushes it higher.
- Room size. Bigger rooms need more framing, more insulation and a larger heater.
- Venting and drainage. Custom ductwork and a floor drain cost more than a simple pass-through.
- Finish level. Glass fronts, hidden lighting and built-in benches all add hours.
- Permit fees. What the city charges tracks the heater rating and the footprint.

What are the electrical requirements for a sauna heater?
Most electric heaters want their own dedicated circuit rather than a shared outlet, sized to the heater’s rating and the room volume. Small units may run on 120V, but anything heating a real room typically needs 240V. Older homes here often need a panel upgrade first. We check your panel on the first visit so there are no surprises.
How long does an installation take?
A kit on prepared ground is usually three to seven days on site. A custom room built from framing up runs four to eight weeks from final drawing to first steam. Outdoor cabins that need a poured pad take longer. You get a real schedule before we start.
Can I install a sauna without a permit?
Sometimes, but rarely for anything with a hard-wired heater or a new structure. Permit requirements depend on the heater, the footprint and whether you are altering the building. We check with the city as part of the quote and pull whatever is required, so the work stays on record and passes inspection.
Do you install saunas I bought elsewhere?
Yes, and it is a large share of what we do. Send us the model and the parts list and we will confirm it suits your space and your service before it ships. We take delivery, count every piece and build it to the manufacturer’s instructions.
