How We Work
From the first drawing to your first steam, the plan stays clear and the price stays set.
1. Access survey and base prep
We check the route from the street to the spot, because a barrel that cannot pass the side gate is an expensive problem. Then we build a base that drains and set the cradles dead level.
2. Assembly and banding
Staves go up in sequence, bands are tensioned evenly, and the doors and windows are hung so they stay square. We wire the heater on a dedicated circuit or fit the flue for a wood stove.
3. Weatherproofing and handover
We seal the end walls, fit the roof covering, treat the exterior against our UV load, then fire it with you and set out the seasonal care routine.

Four-foot barrels seat two comfortably, six-foot barrels take four, and eight-foot units seat six or add a changing room at one end.
Roof coverings
Bare cedar weathers to a silver grey. Asphalt shingle or standing seam adds decades of life and is worth it under full valley sun.

A full glass end wall turns the barrel toward a view or a garden. It costs heat efficiency and buys a great deal of atmosphere.
Wood-fired or electric
Wood stoves suit barrels well and need a flue kit with proper clearances. Electric heaters need a trenched dedicated circuit, which we run and get inspected.
What Affects the Cost of Barrel Saunas
Barrel pricing is more predictable than a custom build. What varies:
- Barrel length and diameter, which set both the price and the heater size.
- Base preparation. A level gravel pad is quick; a sloped yard needs grading or piers.
- Electrical. Trenching a circuit across a garden is often the largest labor item.
- Roof covering and exterior treatment, which decide how long it survives the sun.
- Glass ends and windows.
- Access. A long carry, a narrow gate or a steep lot adds crew hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have a sauna in my backyard?

Do I need a foundation?
Not a poured foundation in most cases. Barrels sit on cradles, which need a flat, well-draining base: compacted gravel, pavers or a small concrete pad. What they cannot tolerate is settling unevenly, because that pulls the staves out of round.
How do I choose the right sauna for a small backyard?
Measure the clear space first, then subtract the setback your city requires from fences and structures, and leave room to walk around it for maintenance. In a genuinely tight yard a four-foot barrel or a compact custom cabin against a wall usually beats squeezing in a six-footer. We will measure and tell you honestly what fits.
